2020 LAYAYA Authors in 2020!

This Creative Writing project that will allow young writers to become published authors. Participation in this project is free and is open to all Louisiana youth ages 8-18 who would like to become a published author. Participants must be registered by a parent/legal guardian online using the submission form on this page. There is no charge to register or participate - LAYAYA has waived the participation fee for this project for Louisiana youth registering (up to 2,020 participants) during March 2020!


Creative writing will host a 30 day author challenge for young writers! Young authors ages (8-18) will be asked to write a story or poem and submit it. The works will be included in a book to be published this summer and made available worldwide through global distribution as well as registered at the US Library of Congress! 


All submissions will be considered for inclusion in a published book which will be made available through global distribution in retail outlets like Barnes & Noble, Amazon and more! Credit will be given to the author; our goal is to have 2,020 new Louisiana published authors in 2020!

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

Choose one of the following projects:

COLLECTIONS

  • Short Stories FICTION – any topic and genre is welcome from science fiction to fantasy and everything in between! Write a short story, title it and submit it. (Story must be 2-25 pages typed and must include a story title).
  • NONFICTION - “Hello World!” Youth ages 8-18 give their opinion and advice on a broad range of topics that they feel are important. Point out topics and issues that you feel need attention and offer suggestions and advice on solutions. Discuss how you would like to see situations/topics handled better by adults whether it is school/academics, social issues, family issues, environmental issues or other important topics in your life! Content/language must be appropriate for all readers. Submissions should be ½ page – 25 pages typed. Please list the topic at the top of page (or your topic title)
  • Poetry – Poetry can be any topic and style. Poem must include a title.

All authors must register for the project online at www.LAYAYA.org

Once registration has been received, an email will be sent to the parent/guardian to complete the required release/permission forms. (Completed forms are required for participation if work is to be considered for publishing).

In addition to becoming a published author through this project, you could also be awarded a 1 year scholarship to publish your own solo project!

For every 50 participants in this project, LAYAYA will award 1 distance learning LAYAYA Creative Writing scholarship to a young author who would like to write and publish a solo novel or collection of poetry or short stories in 2021! Scholarships will be announced summer 2020 The LAYAYA Creative Writing distance learning sessions will be August 2020 – July 2021.
